DIS is governed by a management body including the Owner/Managers and Principal and ten members of the parent body to form the School Advisory Committee.

All members are committed to the long term provision of quality education, achieved through effective human, financial and facilities management.

The nature of the committee structure ensures all school community members receive representation at the meetings, which are held at least once each term and are attended by members only.

The management body undertakes processes which will best ensure the long term viability of the school. It guarantees overall management accountability and undertakes reviews of processes and compliance with agreed philosophy, and appropriate financial management and educational practice.

Daily management of educational operations is the responsibility of the Principal, who is supported by Administration Assistants. In 2010 this involves interacting with members of the school community who represent 31 different nationalities.

The broad direction of Dili International School is defined and made explicit through the strategic planning process, resulting in the publication of a tri-annual Strategic Plan. The strategic plan is reviewed annually in order to maintain focus, improve performance and inform future planning.

DIS Preschool and Primary School curriculum is an accredited Australian curriculum which is used within the framework of the Australian National Goals for Schooling in the 21st Century. This provides a comprehensive program outlining what students must learn and how this should be assessed and reported upon.

Our Secondary students use accredited Australian and American curriculums and students graduate from DIS with either an Australian or American High School Diploma.

DIS holds membership with the Council of International Schools the governing body for International Schools, whose International School guidelines DIS bases its practices on along with Australian Policy requirements.
