Classes at a glance

We are delighted to announce the addition of three classes for this year. Two in the Lower Primary area and one additional Secondary class. The class in Lower Primary allows us to better achieve our aim of individualizing student learning. Composite classes enable students to be placed according to their particular needs and thus achieve to their optimum.

Secondary students are now offered face to face learning classes for year 9 and 10 to compliment the face to face teaching of students in years 7 and 8. The curriculum framework used for the Secondary Program will be the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program. DIS is privileged to be working with this prestigious organization to implement the program and ensure we meet program standards.

The Secondary Distance Program, which has operated since 2006, is being phased out for all but year 11 and 12 students.

All students are enrolled in age appropriate classes. The Principal reviews all enrolment placements prior to the student commencing. Currently, all classes at Dili International School are multi-age, with at least two grade levels in each.

Student numbers in each class varies with corresponding staff ratios. All classes are taught by a teacher qualified to international registration standards, with at least one teaching assistant.

This multi-age arrangement comfortably allows for students joining us from the Northern and Southern Hemisphere school calendars. It also allows for accommodation of individual learning needs irrespective of grade or age.

Dili International School strives to maintain low student / teacher ratios and class sizes. If Playgroup or class sizes reach the limit, a waiting list is prepared. This waiting list operates upon the date of enrolment enquiry. If contact is unable to be made, the next name on the list will be offered the vacancy.
